Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Reno NV
219 AM PDT Tue Jun 3 2025
.KEY MESSAGES...
* Seasonably warm weather persists this week with hotter
conditions returning this weekend.
* Dry for most areas except for daily chances for thunderstorms
along the E.Sierra, mainly in Mono County through Friday.
* Very dry conditions continue across the Basin and Range with poor
RH recoveries through Thursday morning.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
Current water vapor imagery this morning depicts a dry air mass
filtering into N.California and N.Nevada. Very dry conditions are
being reported across the W.Nevada Basin and Range with RH values
still in the teens and low 20 percent range as of 2am.
This dry air mass will allow for another warm day with sunny
conditions for most areas. The exception once again will remain
across portions of Alpine and Mono counties this afternoon where
400-600 J/kg of surface CAPE could yield a 15-25% chance of
showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Drier and deeper sub-
cloud layers with higher DCAPE(1600-1800 J/kg) could yield a
better potential for gusty outflows up to 45 mph today before
activity wanes around sunset. Look for daily afternoon shower/Tstorm
chances to continue for the E.Sierra through at least Friday.
We`ll remain seasonably warm through the week (5-10 degrees above
average) before another heat up arrives over the weekend with
highs returning into the lower 90s across W.Nevada. This could
yield widespread areas of moderate HeatRisk for W.Nevada
communities and minor HeatRisk for Sierra locations. Fuentes

.AVIATION...
VFR conditions expected across W.Nevada and Tahoe terminals this
afternoon. However, there will be a 15-25% chance of showers and
thunderstorms for KMMH between about 21-03z. Thunderstorms will
be capable of small hail, gusty/erratic outflow winds up to 40kts,
and occasional cloud-to-ground lightning. Fuentes
